Watching and hearing on the news of the increase of poverty is heartbreaking. Our questions often reflect our personal opinions about wealth and poverty. Even if we are blessed with the ability to financially support a variety of charitable appeals, we may find ourselves influenced by arguments suggesting that the poor are always looking for a handout.
Faithful people cannot selfishly ignore the plight of those who are hungry, homeless, or lonely and all who live on the margins of our societies. Paul’s words speak the gospel “In everything do to others as you would have them do to you” (Matthew 7:12). We are all called to live together as children of God. Some of us have much, some have little, but we are all one through the love of Christ, and we express this through mutual support for each other and for our church. Thank you all for the continued support here at Christ Lutheran. May we dig a little deeper into our pockets this month and help give as you are able on Sunday, July 7th for the First of the Month ministry fund for Eureka school supplies – USD 389.
+ Generous God, guide our hearts and minds so that your gifts to us bring blessings to others. Amen
