I’m sure that some of you remember the song “And The Beat Goes On.” Well, we could change “beat” to “heat”—And The Heat Goes On. We sometimes ask, is the heat ever going to break? Will it ever cool down? Summer is winding down. The fair is this weekend. Most of the smaller fairs around Eureka have already happened or will be soon. The children will be heading back to school in 2-3 weeks. Cooler weather is just around the corner, followed by winter, at which time we then ask for the warmer days. It seems like we are never satisfied, at least with the weather.
The hot weather does put stress on not only the plants, crops, and all of the foliage outside, but it wreaks havoc with some people that cannot take the heat, as well as our pets and livestock. Thank goodness for air conditioning! It makes one wonder how our forefathers and mothers did it. They did not have the luxury of air conditioning so they never knew the difference. They rose early and did their work in the cooler hours of the day. I’m sure that they stayed hydrated! They persevered. They never gave up.
Actually, if we stop and truly think about the seasons, the hot summers, the cooler falls, winter and spring, to me it is totally amazing. God had it all figured out. He knew we would need the heat and wind for our crops to ripen, that the cooler temps of the fall would help us to prepare for the winter that is coming, where at times we are shut up in our homes to avoid the coldest temperatures of the year. Spring, when the whole earth awakens and the showers come to bring forth the beauty that God made for our pleasure. The smells of blooms and the rains that make all life flourish. Our God thought of us the moment when He began creating.
God has done everything to please us and to bring us closer to Him. God has done everything out of His love for us. The greatest of all of these things that He has done for us is, of course, Jesus. God gave us Jesus so that we have total forgiveness of our sins and have eternal rest with Him. I pray that everyone stays healthy and safe during these hot days of summer, but let us not forget why God gives us this heat and to give Him thanks for all that He has done for us, out of His continued love for us.
