September, we are still in the Pentecost season. This season does not have a lot of changes. There is nothing exciting to celebrate. One may think that the Pentecost season is dull. The color on the altar remains green. It is a quiet time of the year when we celebrate our Lord. Or is it? The last few Sundays the scripture has been leading us down a path that tends to make us think. Just what exactly was the scripture trying to tell me this week? We are to contemplate our relationship in this world with Christ. We all need to slow down, to have some down time, a time when we rest our minds and our bodies. Find some quiet time so that we may reflect on our relationship with Jesus, and others.
You may be thinking, this time hasn’t been slow for me, I have been working in the yard. It has been raining quite a bit so that does make more work in your yard. If you have a garden there are always weeds to pull out, vegetables or fruits to pick, freeze or can. Mowing, and then some more mowing. There have been vacations to plan and take. Just recently the children have gone back to school. That meant shopping. Going for school clothes because the children had outgrown what they wore last year. Pencils, erasers, notebooks and other school supplies had to be purchased. So, you may ask me, why do I think this time of year has been slow? Outside of the Church, it hasn’t been slow but, in Church it has been a quiet time. It’s in the quiet times when we meet Christ.
It won’t remain quiet forever! Christ’s Kids will start back up September 4th. We are blessed to have enough adults helping this year so that Christ’s Kids will happen every Wednesday after school! We thank all of these adults for stepping up to make our Christ’s Kids program successful. A light snack will be provided along with Bible lessons and some fun activities thrown in. September 14th is Holy Cross Sunday. From Sundays and Seasons, “As Moses put a serpent on a pole to be a source of healing for the Israelites, we lift high the cross as the sign of our health and salvation. Each time we make the sign of the cross we remember our baptism into the death and resurrection of Christ.” So let us always remember, though the church year may be slow, our worship remains steadfast in the idea that the quiet times is where we meet Jesus. God Bless,
