As I’m sitting here writing my article for December’s newsletter, tomorrow is Thanksgiving. I believe I have told you before that Thanksgiving is my favorite Holiday. There are no pretenses, no elaborate gift giving, and not a lot of fabulous decorating (which I’m not very good at, anyway). It’s just delicious food, wonderful family and friends gathered around the table. There are games, laughter, and a lot of catching up.
It makes me remember what I am truly thankful for. First of all, I am thankful for God’s love for us all. His forgiveness and His constant care. I’m thankful for family and friends, and I’m especially thankful for God sending me here to love, guide, and lead all of you to Him.
I’m also thankful for the upcoming seasons of the church year. Advent, as we await the coming of the celebration of the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It is because of His birth that we are able to live our lives knowing just how much God loves us. The coming birth that reminds us that through His birth, we are free to live our lives through Him, and with Him. It is through His birth that we are more closely united with God.
As we prepare for Christmas, let us be thankful for all of the blessings that God has freely given to us this past year, and the greatest of these blessings is the gift of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and God’s blessings to you all.
+ Pastor Sue Ellen
